Montañas of Meat

Yesterday Mel and I had the honor of being invited to eat downtown at an amazing Restaurant called Miramar (I guess you could translate it ocean lookout). Anyway it was a great meal. As expected I ate so much that I haven´t eaten in the past 24hrs. I guess you might call that eating too much, or maybe just taking advantage of the opportunity. But who can blame me, check out the food.

It was great to spend time with the directors of the Chinese school as well as get to know their visiting professor of missions and his wife from Hong Kong. We felt incredibly blessed by the Chinese brother who owned the restaurant!

Ibste´s got a brand new bag

The new seal, In preparation for Ibste´s upcoming graduation we drew inspiration from my alma matar Taylor University and their tradition of handing out Towels of service to each graduate with their diploma. The only thing Ibste was missing was a new official seal. So with a little creativity and help from Illustrator I put together a new seal and layout of the towel.

The towel,I think it came out pretty well. Of course I needed a little help from internet to. . shall we say "borrow" some basic ideas, but I think it´s different enough. Oh beloved shades of grey. . .

Ibste Stand

I´d have to say that in the end we were pleasantly surprised by the responses we received from the stand. From the moment we opened Thursday to the time we closed Sunday afternoon we rarely were able to catch our breath. The norm was to have 1 person waiting in line, 2 people shooting baskets, 1 reciting bible verses (in order to play again), and 1 person in a serious conversation about what studying at Ibste really was all about. No matter where the participants fit, they all walked away with a greater understanding of Ibste.
In the end the winners of the basketball challenge had memorized more than 10 bible verses and had brought all their friends along to join in the game.

The stand as it was 8 hours of the day

But more than just promote Ibste, the conference also was a great chance to make connections with other organizations working throughout Spain.

I guess I should also explain the basketball hoops. One of the requirements for having a stand was to offer an interactive activity. Quite simply, we set up 3 hoops with the Aprender, Amar, y Servir and let participants take turns shooting baskets. After 3 days the person with the most points won a prize. The catch was, in order to play more than just one time you had to memorize a given bible verse. It´s incredible how motivated some folks get when there´s an ipod involved.

Sunrise Sunset

Just got back from the large youth conference in Huesca and will post pictures on that soon. But in the meantime enjoy this video. It reminded me of when I worked at a golf course and witnessed every sunrise for about 3 months. It may not be that cool for you but for me it was breathtaking. . . we have an awesome and creative God.
(if you can pull the HD do it)
